The most fun canal cruise you can make with Watertaxi Hoorn! Board the daily departures or reserve a boat with skipper for your private group. We mainly operate open boats so we can pass some low bridges. This way you can best enjoy the view. Of course we have umbrellas and cozy blankets on board.
Discover the historic harbors of Hoorn by taking a boat tour with the Watertaxi. We cruise in an electric sloop for a round trip of approximately one hour. Meanwhile, the skipper is happy to tell you about the most beautiful places of historic Hoorn. Chilled beverages are available on board.
The electric sloops are also available for rent exclusively for your private group. In addition to our guided boat tours, we use the boats for weddings, bachelor parties, children’s parties, photo reportages and ash scatterings.
In the event of inclement weather, we will contact you to reschedule or cancel your appointment at no charge.
At various locations throughout the city and at the various parking locations we have convenient boarding areas equipped with handrails and “lazy” stairs. From here you can sail to the city center or the old harbor in 10 minutes. On the page boarding points you will find our different stops with more explanations.

Would you prefer to discover Hoorn for yourself from the water? We also rent a whisper boat (max. 8 people on board) for those who prefer to skipper themselves. We will tell you in advance what the best route is for a private cruise through Hoorn. No boating license is required to rent and operate a whisper boat.
For several years, the Watertaxi Hoorn has had a classic 1933 bakdekker. On reservation we organize several trips with this. It is possible to make a cruise from Hoorn to Volendam, Edam, Enkhuizen, Marken and the Marker Wadden.
For private groups there are extensive possibilities to tailor a cruise to the specific needs. In advance we can determine how long we will cruise, which locations we will visit and if there are any special culinary wishes. 1. A canal cruise gives you the best view of some of the city’s most important monuments. Hoorn is a beautiful historic city which enjoyed a tremendous period of prosperity for almost 100 years starting around 1575. Because of its location on the then Zuiderzee, the city became an important trading city for the VOC, among others. Much of the historical heritage is therefore easy to see from the water.
2. You see more during a canal cruise Hoorn! Our experienced skippers live in the city and can tell you a lot about the history of Hoorn. They will point out important details that you would otherwise overlook.
3. A canal cruise Hoorn does not involve heavy city traffic. A canal cruise Hoorn is primarily a relaxing activity where you don’t have to watch out for scooters racing by. Get in the boat, sit back, relax and have a drink.
Hoorn has excellent and inexpensive parking facilities and parking garages. There are also some free parking lots. From most parking lots and garages in Hoorn it is only a short walk to the main Watertaxi Hoorn office; and in many cases you will find a boarding point less than a 5-minute walk away! A normal canal cruise through Hoorn takes about 1 hour. If you book a private canal cruise, different arrangements can be made.
A regular cruise costs 17,- euro per person. Standard you will enjoy coffee/tea on board before noon, and beer, wine and soft drinks after noon. The refreshments are free and inclusive!
You can book a private cruise from as little as 1 person, but we assume that private cruises are usually booked for a company. Per sloop we can take 14 guests. Because we have more boats at our disposal, we can divide larger groups over more boats.
At Watertaxi Hoorn, we have several ships at our disposal. For regular tours we always use electrically powered luxury sloops. For longer cruises and excursions offshore, we have a historic Bakdekker. If you want to go yourself (without skipper), you can rent a whisper boat.
A cruise through Hoorn in the evening can be a special experience. Our operating times depend on the weather and the season. On a sultry summer evening we sail a little longer. For private groups there are always opportunities to make an evening cruise.
A canal cruise Hoorn is extremely suitable for children. Depending on the age of the children, we can make the cruise extra adventurous with a special route. A children’s party with the Watertaxi Hoorn is highly recommended!
Hoorn is a great fun city to visit. The city has more than 350 national monuments and more than 400 municipal monuments. In the city center you will find more and more local stores, a large number of good restaurants and nice museums. A cruise with the Watertaxi is great to combine with a number of other activities in the city. We can heartily recommend the following three activities:
By water cab, we see the city mostly from the waterfront. However, we cannot visit all the sights by boat. If you want to see more of the city, then a tour and city walk with guide Alette from Local Guide Hoorn is highly recommended. Alette takes you along the most important monuments and shows you the hidden gems. Meanwhile, she tells wonderful stories about the illustrious past of the city and its inhabitants.
Near the Watertaxi office and our departure point on Oostereiland you will find the Museum of the 20th Century.
At this museum, you take a step back in time and imagine yourself back in your own childhood.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are ever-changing exhibits.

Since 2024, Hoorn has the largest city beach in the Netherlands.
The water cab has a stop near the beautiful beach pavilion.
From this pavilion you can take a nice walk to the city center or just sit in the sun and have a nice swim in the former Zuiderzee (now the Markermeer).
